Week 47: Christmas! December 26, 2016

We were able to Skype with Elder Gibson on Christmas day at 1:00 p.m. our time. It was so awesome to see his beautiful face and hear his voice! We had a lot of fun during the hour. He and Alex spoke some spanish together and had a few laughs that we weren’t privy to. Wes was home for Christmas, so all my boys were “together” for a short time. It was the best present a mom could ever ask for. Here is a picture of all my boys during our “call”. His big news was that he’s being transferred and called as a District Leader! He’s also going to be in a trio for awhile. He’s a bit nervous but very excited about these changes and we know he’ll do an amazing job because he’s so obedient and such a wonderful disciple of Christ.

Merry Christmas!

Week 46: Almost Christmas, December 19, 2016

Week 45: Marcelo, December 12, 2016

Well aside from all the less importants shananigans i pull all week long, most important things first!

Marcelo is this guy who has a hard time reading and talking and walking. When the missionaries found him like 2 or 3 years ago, he had to use a walker and you pretty much couldnt understand him. He used to drink a lot and smoke a lot.
He always wanted to get baptized but its hard for him to come to church and for awhile he went to a different one, and he doesnt understand a lot of things very easily. This may be becauze im white and he doesnt speak English, despite my efforts.
So he was gunna get baptized this Saturday, then he drank a little and smoked a couple cigarettes. But then the Zone Leaders came and we talked to President and to Marcelo and his wife and we decided it was all good.
So he got baptized on Saturday! My first baptism in 7 and a half months! It was super amazing! He was so ready! He got confirmed yesterday by my companion and now hes excited to share some pass along cards and visit some of his less active friends who are members! Hes super awesome and we always have a good time together, his wife told me he thought i had left for Germany (he thinks im german) when another elder came, and she told me hes gunna miss me, and im gunna miss him too, but i remember the first time I met him, and im grateful to have been able to see this process in his life.
Another thing that is equally as miraculous is that theres an Hermano here that doesnt live here but his girlfriend is in the ward. Well he actually served here in this ward as a missionary like 3 years ago. He showed up on Saturday, even though his girlfriend and her family werent even here, and I had met him before so I recognized him and remembered something, he was the one who found Marcelo! He and his companion were the first to teach him, and he somehow ended up traveling from Brazil and showing up at the church and there was one of his old investigators! So that was insane.
Here he is with the Brother that baptized him, the exmissionary, and his friend. Shes not his wife, his wife couldnt come.
Also theres pictures of a family that the Sisters baptized this Saturday, and they gave me the honor of confirming the young man named Sebastian! That was insane! I never wouldve imagined how little Justin from Boise who misses his beard could be the one to confer the Gift of the Holy Ghost to an awesome future missionary! I couldnt be more grateful for everthing the Lord gives us, even though we dont even belong in the same sentence as the word perfect. I love you all and thank you for all the emails and letters and support you give to me and my family, and hope that you too can have a miraculous Christmas Season!
Heres my Zone Leader from Panama, and some stuff we ate to celebrate the baptism.

Love you!

Week 44: Zone Conference! December 5, 2016

So a couple weeks ago they said that for the whole southamerican south area, missionaries could not have zone activities if the president was not present, and a bunch of other rules. Then all the sudden the zone leaders told us that on friday we were all gunna go to this huge chappel super far away (where my companion mexican Elder Bautista is right now) called San Vicente for a zone conference and activity. So we all go together, and the assistants have a taller (thats a spanish word) where they showed a ton of videos of missionaires opening their mission calls, including me, and it was crazy powerful to remember how much sacrifice and excitment had gone into the mission and how sometimes we take that for granted out here in the field. So yeah that was amazing. Then the zone leaders talked about enoc and go and do and the president and his wife talked about how we had beat the mission record with 50 baptisms in November and how we could have so much more too, so then we ate lunch and played football and volleyball with the president and his wife and all left super tired but super jacked for missionary work!

Then on Saturday we had another capilla abierta and tormenta blanca in Banfield 2, which was aight. We got lost in some field train burial ground thing for awhile, but we made it out alive.
Oh and this last Monday we had a district activity. I made rootbeer, the Zone Leaders made some combination of a Uruguay and Panama food, my companion made some Paraguay food, the hermanas made Spinach Smoothie (mostly Hermana Shepard) and the other elders made Hot Dogs. IT was pretty fun!
Super quick week, after the thing on Friday and a lot of traveling to get there and back, we came back super tired and went to work and our first contact we had a lesson and found 6 new investigators who are all super awesome! One of them, Damian, whose 12, speaks English super well and hes crazy smart, another, Matias, is a fan of Juventus too and thats pretty much why i started talking to them, and the grandpas name is Esteban and he tells me to call him Grandpa Steve, which is cool, cuz I have a Grandpa and an Uncle Steve.
Anyway, its goin good down here, they also raised our monthly money thing, so now we can buy more food and its super nice, were gunna do a couple things for christmas, im lovin it, i hope your loving life too, have a good week!

Love you!

Week 43: Thanksgiving? November 28, 2016

Week 42: Thanksgiving, November 21, 2016

Spoiler alert, no pictures again. Im workin on it though kindof. Well this week were able to go to a lot of lessons with a member acompanying us (i hope that makes sense in English. they seem to get the gist when i say it in spanish!) so that was super awesome. we found a couple new people to teach, and we were super excited because a bunch of people had commited to come to church, but no one came, so this week were gunna work a little harder with em and get em there.

In Saturday we went to a branch called El Faro and worked in a super poor neighborhood mostly inhibited by paraguayos and bolivianos for a Tormenta Blanca, and were gunna host most of the zone here in Banfield this weekend!
Well the members have been super jacked recently cuz they think were pretty cool, so weve been working to keep them excited and maybe get some activities going. I will be here for Christmas so Im gunna need my temporary ward family here extra happy.
We had another baptismal interview yesterday with a young man who decided to get baptized today, so thats what there up to in Lanus today, the guy is super awesome! So were all pretty jacked too.
The Hermana Garner from Colorado just got here and is being trained by Hermana Shepard here in the ward. She already speaks impressively good spanish and were excited to have her in the squad. I dont have much time left and im sorry my emails have been super short (compared to before atleast) but we keep working and i hope you do too and were all gunna see some miracles this christmas!

Oh yeah this week is Thanksgiving, so I´ll naturally be a little hungrier than normal, but itll be in vain. Have a good week!

Love you!

Week 41: Same, November 14, 2016

Transfers came! Im just gunna chill here in the middle of the suburbs with my buddy Elder Colmán from Paraguay for about 6 more weeks. Ill probably leave after that thought cuz the President doesnt want missionaries being in an area for too long and someone else needs to come in before my comp dies. he dies in february.

So this week we had a baptism on Sunday! It was this woman whose daughter is on a mission. The sisters have been teaching her for a long time and she suddenly decided to get baptized, so we did it! It was super spiritual, and a lot of people came cuz we did it on Sunday so that the mormons would stay instead of not coming on Saturday. So also the Elders in Lanus had a baptism so we had to do both the interviews. We´ve been traveling for a bit this week. Nothing like Las Flores though, we still had some time to find some new people to teach. Also we had exchanges on Tuesday and i have a couple pictues but I probably will have to wait until next week.
Well, not a lot this week but the Hermana Shepard is still gunna be here with a greenie shell train, and our Zone Leaders are changing! I love you all and I love the mission and I love the Lord and he loves us too! ¡Godspeed!

Love you!
