Week 13: Every Missionaries Favorite Email, April 25, 2016

Disculpe (sorry) for last week, internets and computers down here are as you would expect. But all is well! In fact, recently all has been amazing!

This last Saturday we had two baptisms!! Una hermana Griselda who lives single with her 4 sons and 1 daughter, and is a great woman. Here´s a small story to describe how strong she is. She has been in a little pain recently, but it was kinda bad at the baptismal service, but she got baptised and after the service they took her to the Hospital across the street, where her 2 year old son had been this week as well with super inflamed legs, and Griselda´s legs were hurting her too, she might have to have surgery, she was not able to be confirmed on Sunday though.
The other was Alejandro, who lives with his wife (legally married, which is rare) and their little boy. He has progressed quickly, and reads the Book of Mormon a lot despite his distorted eyesight (not sure why, they speak Spanish here and stuff, so I dont catch a lot), and he used to smoke more than a pack a day, but he has succesfully dejó de fumar! (Quit smoking)! Which is a huge blessing and miracle, all his friends and most of his coworkers, and most adult residents of Las Flores, smoke so its tough to say no. He was able to be confirmed this Sunday even though his brothers wedding was Saturday night! Unfortunately the Presidente de Rama didnt invite us to be in the circle with him, so we didnt get to participate haha, but of course we are as happy as ever.
Now I would have weeks of pictures, but my camera died, and I forgot the thing to put the SD card in the computer.
Our District Leader and his new companion, Elder Bonifas, de España, who came on Tuesday to the field, had to come to Las Flores twice this week for the 2 interviews bautismal, which is very expensive as you can guess. He apparently has no food, his monthly asignación is gone, but the travel costs are reimbursable. He had to come twice cuz the first time Griseldas son was in the hospital so she couldnt come. Hospital is more like an intense doctors office here as opposed to what we would think of like an emergency room, so still not great news, but not terribly scary, we also had the opportunity to bless the little boy, Thian, who loves me! And of course I love him.
Well we´re learning new things and improving daily, and we´re just happier and happier. Though it is weird to not be the youngest in our District, Im excited to get more into the culture, language, and of course missionary life routine. But also to see where you guys go with your lives! Also weve been finding a lot of big and little wolf spider things in our pensión recently, so were worried there could be a little giant family somewhere. But we´re alright. Love you all! ¡Godspeed!

Love you!

Week 12: (no “big” email!), April 18, 2016

I received an email from Elder Gibson in response to my email, but he did not send his report email that he calls the “big one”. He explains in his email on the next post! I thought I’d share what he sent me:

In my email I shared with him that Winston and I were in a car accident that week! We were very blessed to walk away with only minor injuries. Here’s his repsonse:

Oh man thats crazy! Im so glad you guys made it out almost untouched! thats such a blessing. Wooh thats scary. I can only thank the Lord for protecting you guys, and sending those families to help.
Thank you for the pictures and all! And the video!  Poor Little Win and his foot though haha, he was just looking at some hole in the Wall.
Dang Magellan! Shes just missin her ol buddy. Play the Great Gatsby soundtrack and Shell be back on her feet in no time.
Thats crazy that Alex is gone so soon. I gotta remind him that his future wife has to be interviewed by me over email if not on skype call before they tie the knot.
Thats still crazy about the car accident though. Im just so glad you guys are all okay. I love you guys, youll hear more from me!
I also sent a pic of Winston eating some Skittles. Here was his response:
its been awhile since ive seen that view of that old house …good times. ooh look at those candies on the counter. let me guess, Winston still always wants Candy and fast food? I cant blame him, I´m the same way. Winstons still the cutest though so thats good. haha what a goofball. Mom I have literally almost 50 mosquito bites, all from one night. And this morning and yesterday were rough digestively speaking but I think were good now.
And that was all he sent!

Week 11: Un Mes, April 11, 2016

One month in the field! They say the first month or two or three go by the slowest, but this month seems like it went by kinda quick. Anyway, recently in Las Flores its been raining like crazy. Our shoes, bikes, and slacks have been pretty much caked in mud recently, but its kinda fun.

Well we are improving everyday, me and Elder Derbez, and my Spanish is doing the same! We were supposed to have 2 baptisms this Saturday, and they both looked like they were gunna fall through thanks to Satan the Serpent, but we might be able to still have one. Will we triumph regardless, and the work outside of those 2 individuals is going great regardless. We might have to travel a lot this week again so thats another reason we may not have all the baptisms. They´ll come eventually, my trainer has taught me a lot about how when Elder Bednar came to Argentina he talked a lot about being patient with investigators, so we´re not worried.
Big shot out to a couple of my best bros!: Allison and Calvin! DJ Fur and Freaking Allison Potter herself! They got married! Its crazy, but its awesome, and i love em both and theyre both amazing, wonderful people!
Alls good down here, love you all! I will make you proud by working as hard as you´d want me to, if you make me proud by growing your testimony and giving a little more to the Lord each week!
Also really great passage of scripture I came across this week: 1 Nephi 17: 41-52!
Also this week our District Leader and his mini-missionary companion came and ended up having to stay the night because they missed the last bus back home, me and the District Leader stayed up talking so late that I lost my voice from lack of sleep and talking a bunch. But its coming back!
3 pics this week:
Hilarious little roundabout in Las Flores. They have a lot of them, and their usually these white obelisk things or just grass, but this dirty tiny one just has a beat up metal trash can on it haha. Made me laugh. Sorry Argentina.
This is Elder Derbez and Rodrigo, the twelve year old son of one of our investigators with a Baptismal date. He´s borrowing Elder Derbez´s tie and nametag.
Still havent tried it yet but heres an Argentinian Barbeque, they smell amazing, and I get hungry every time I see it.

Love you!

Elder Gibson

Week 10: Conferencia General, April 4, 2016

Amazing General Conference! I had a hard time understand but I prayed a lot to be able to listen to the Spirit at least, and got a lot of good guidance! Re-read those talks! They were all powerful and we can all get one thing from em that will improve our lives!

Well this last week we were in Adrogué, the mission offices, for Visa stuff. After interviews with the Mission President, we drove down there with him and the Assistants, which was a cool experience, then we stayed two nights in Adrogué. Which wasnt bad except for the mosquitos. My hands and arms are still just covered in bites. My face got some too. And my ears actually, which is wierd. But it was cool. I had the opportunity to go around with the Pensionero whose this awesome guy from Brazil. He pretty much just runs errands for to keep all the pensiones, the houses, of the missionaries in check. Crazy life.
We also did splits in a ´Villa´ (ghetto dangerous area) where we only took books of mormon. I left my watch and glasses and everything behind haha. We didnt have any problems though.
Also I found the March 1997 Liahona, and it has a huge section about the Buenos Aires stakes! It was crzy! It talked about how in 1966 they created the first stake, then 30 years later they had a big thing about it and created the 61st stake, already our stake, Monte Grande, had been created. Richard G Scott was there too I believe. The first Stake President here became a 70 and was at the 30 year thing too! Just cool to read about what was going on the month after I was born. The month before they sent out the Proclamation to the Family to South America as well! I think. Its in Spanish so im not 100% sure haha.
Anyway I love you all and wish you all a good week, keep moving through life and learning to smile about everything! Romans 5:1-5 is a great verse about that as well. ¡Godspeed!

Love you!
